The historic suburban Borough of Laurel Springs turns 100 years old this year. It formally separated from neighboring Clementon Township on April 2, 1913 and became an incorporated Borough in Camden County. The famous American poet Walt Whitman (1819-1892) maintained his summer home in Laurel Springs, and the formerly-rural area which is now Laurel Springs served as a popular resort destination throughout much of the 19th century.
