We are pleased to share the news that Richard DeMichele has been appointed to the New Jersey State Bar Association's Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committee ("JPAC") as the representative for Camden County. His term will run from June 2025 through May 2028.
The Judicial and Prosecutorial Appointments Committee is a compact between the Governors office and the New Jersey State Bar Association. The compact first began in 1969 when then Governor Richard Hughes sought to have a non-partisan review of potential judges and prosecutors in the State of New Jersey. JPAC plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity, quality, and impartiality of New Jersey's judicial system. Members of the committee are appointed based upon their stature in the legal community, unmistaken integrity, and a desire to to provide the time and effort necessary to commit to the appointment process. The committee is responsible for screening and evaluating candidates for judicial and county prosecutor appointments before those nominations are forwarded to the Governor. JPAC evaluates candidates in a confidential and nonpartisan manner with out consideration of the candidates philosophy or ideology. By ensuring a fair and rigorous vetting process, JPAC helps uphold the high standards of justice that New Jersey residents expect and deserve. The complete list of the JPAC Committee members can be found here.
This appointment is a return to a familiar leadership role for DeMichele, who previously served as Chair of the committee in the 2017 - 2018 year. His deep understanding of the judicial selection process, combined with his years of experience in the legal profession, make him a valuable asset to the committee, the bench and bar.
Throughout his career, Richard DeMichele has been known for his commitment to fairness, legal excellence, and public service. His appointment is a testament to the trust and confidence placed in him by his peers and by the broader legal community.
Congratulations to Richard DeMichele on this well-deserved appointment. Camden County and the state of New Jersey will be well served by his continued dedication to justice and integrity.
