On Thursday and Friday this, firm attorney Rick DeMichele is presenting a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) class to the attendees at the New Jersey Child Support Training Conference. Rick’s ethics presentation is titled “Ethically Advocating for the Rich or Famous Divorcing Client.”  New Jersey lawyers who attend this seminar are eligible for 1.5 ethics credits. Lawyers who attend the conference can earn up to 12.6 CLE credits including a total of 8.2 hours in ethics credits. This is the New Jersey Child Support Councils’ 35th annual  Support Training Conference in Atlantic City. The conference is being held at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino Resort March 2nd through March 3rd. The New Jersey Child Support Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the provision of child support services to children and families of New Jersey. Council members and seminar attendees include representatives from both the public and private sector working on Child Support Programs. In order to meet its mission, the Council sponsors regional training and an annual educational conference; it reviews relevant policy and legislation and promotes public awareness. The seminar covers ethical considerations for lawyers in handling a New Jersey divorce where one or both parties have some level of public notoriety, specific hypothetical divorce scenarios, and the ethical concerns that may arise. Attendees review the New Jersey Rules of Professional conduct in an interactive forum and learn techniques to minimize their exposure to disciplinary inquiries. Topics include:
  • Interacting with the Prospective Client
  • Duties to Former Clients
  • Lawyer-Client Privilege
  • Confidentiality of Client Information
  • Responsibilities of Supervisory Lawyers
  • Conflict of Interests
  • Lawyer Advertising
