Justice Long: Independent Judiciary is Essential

Last week I was fortunate to be able to attend the New Jersey State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting. This is far from my first State Bar Annual Meeting. In fact, except for the year I got married, I cannot recall a year I missed the Annual Meeting in Atlantic City.  The continuing legal education offered at this meeting is always top-notch and it is an excellent place to network with colleagues. However, this year was a little different. This year Justice Long retired from the New Jersey State Supreme Court and she was honored at many of the functions at this year’s meeting. Justice Long was this year’s recipient of the Serpentelli Award from the NJSBA Family Law Section.  Her remarks prior to receiving this prestigious award underscore the need for an independent judiciary.  A video of her  acceptance speech is below.
