Domestic Violence Trials: Winning the Case and Minimizing the Impact on the Children
This Thursday and Friday, firm attorneys Rick DeMichele and Greg DeMichele will present a talk to the attendees at the New Jersey Child Support Training Conference. Rick and Greg's presentation is titled “Domestic Violence Trials: Winning the Case and Minimizing the Impact on the Children.” This is the New Jersey Child Support Councils' 34th annual Support Training Conference in Atlantic City The conference is being held at the Tropicana Hotel and Casino Resort March 2nd through March 4th.
The New Jersey Child Support Council is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the provision of child support services to children and families of New Jersey. Council members and seminar attendees include representatives from both the public and private sector working on Child Support Programs. In order to meet its mission, the Council sponsors regional training and an annual educational conference; it reviews relevant policy and legislation and promotes public awareness. The seminar will cover basic to advanced litigation techniques for handling the plaintiff and defendants case in final restraining order trial. This talk will address techniques and strategies for lawyers from both domestic violence perspectives, and attendees will learn techniques to minimize the impact on children. Topics will include:
- Conducting the initial client interview
- Obtaining discovery
- Preparing exhibits and evidence
- General considerations in preparing for trial testimony
- Preparing the client for testimony – direct and cross
- Use of fact witnesses
- Parenting time concerns post hearing
